Early August Fishing Report

Published August 14th, 2025 by Rocketman Charter Fishing

The first two weeks of August we have seen conditions stabilize into a more regular weather pattern and more consistent water temperatures. Finger mullet and shrimp have been pouring through the St. John’s River and its surrounding creeks. Following close behind the Jack Crevalle and Ladyfish have shown up in mass numbers. Earlier this summer I expected to see more of these two species but they had disappeared from my area due to the cold water. Now that the water is up in the mid 80s the late summer fishing has set in.

The trips I’ve had this month have yielded some really nice fish but the bite hasn’t been wide open. Short windows of opportunity seem to have become the norm. We have had success lately catching nice Gator trout up to 24 1/2 inches and some nice redfish in the slot range of 18-27 inches. As we move further along in August and September I’ll continue to watch for Tarpon, Mangrove snapper, and Flounder to start showing up in more numbers. The mullet are getting thick and a few big tropical storms should kick off the mullet run this fall.
